Because every vegetable is different, we need a lot of specialized equipment to help us plant, grow and harvest our crops. We also try to automate as much of the work as we can, so that we can keep our labour costs under control and be as precise and consistent in our processes as possible. If we can’t find the equipment we need on the market place, we’ve also been known to adapt existing technologies or even build our own solutions from scratch in our machine shop.

Asparagus picker

Picking asparagus is still mostly done manually, by workers who walk the fields and bend down to hand-cut market ready spears. To make that job a little easier, we’ve built our own mobile asparagus picking machine that makes it possible for workers to move across the fields more easily and comfortably as they’re harvesting.

Bean packing system

When one of our customers came to us and asked if we could provide them with beans in pre-pack plastic bags, we said yes – and then set about figuring out how to make good on that promise. Our solution was to build a customized system for beans out of two potato packing machines that’s now industry-leading. As a subsequent step, we further adapted the system to allow for heat-sealing of the bags too for greater food safety.

Sweet potato washing system

Sweet potatoes are a more delicate crop than regular potatoes, so they can’t be handled the same way during washing and packing. We developed a washing system specifically for sweet potatoes based on apple washing equipment from Bartlett’s that we adapted to suit our crop and the needs of our customers.

Customized potato packing equipment

Our goal is to ensure we are providing potatoes to our customers in the type of packaging ideal for their needs. This means we have the ability to pack potatoes in 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 50 pound bags that are made of either paper mesh or poly mesh, but we can also pack into bulk containers or large boxes. As well, we can pack quickly to fill orders even on tight schedules.
